Congratulations to the kids and families of the classes doing NAPLAN this week. Everyone appears well settled. The teachers have reported that implementation has been quite smooth. Students who miss a test during the week will be caught up later.
Unfortunately our junior toilets have recently suffered vandalism. Quite a large hole has been kicked in a wall and damage done around a urinal. Repair costs will likely be around $1,500. This is senseless waste. It means two less computers for our school, or a year’s supply of playground items not purchased, or three whole reading schemes, or 2 to 3 discos or an Easter Raffle worth of fundraising.
In our behavior code, one of the aspects is Respect. We often relate respect to how we are treated and how we treat others. Respect also extends to how we treat possessions and property, whether our own or someone else’s. The strength of our Code of Conduct is that it’s relevant to the real world, in that respect is important whether at school or not. Vandalism is an expensive form of disrespect.
Please take the time to chat with your children about the importance of Respect and the cost of behavior such as vandalism. It’s frustrating that all students indirectly suffer due to the behaviour of a few.
On a positive note, our school is remarkably free of vandalism and we have a lovely, well looked after school, and my wish is to keep it this way.

As you would all be aware, NAPLAN testing occurs next week. Students in year 3, 5 and 7 will be completing assessments of Numeracy and Literacy throughout the week.
All students, Australia wide, complete the tests and the data is used to inform progress, measure performance and help with future planning both within the school and beyond the school.
A relaxed, refreshed person performs best when they are taking their routine in their stride. Therefore I hope your child’s routine is as regular as possible. Encourage them to eat well and sleep well. And of course, remind them not to be too stressed over it. All easier said than done I know…
Thank you to all the families supporting the Mother’s Day stall today, whether through donations or purchases. In particular, thanks to the ladies who pulled it together. I believe this stall will be set up again on Friday for those students who missed it today. I hope Mother’s Day is wonderful for all our families, and if the weather keeps holding out, it’ll be off to a good start!

I was very proud of our school on Wednesday at the ANZAC Day ceremony. To have over a third of our enrolment attend to march, and then the choir to perform during the ceremony, was a wonderful reflection upon our school. Respect is a major pillar of our school’s behavior plan and events such as ANZAC Day are an opportunity to show just how successful the plan is.
Each week we reward a student from each class with a morning tea for being the ‘Student of the Week’ of their class. The child is selected by the teacher for displaying behaviours that meet our code of Safety, Effort, Respect and Self-Responsibility. We are supported in this morning tea by several businesses around town, which makes it possible for me to spend some time with the kids who are “doing good”. Coalfields Café have recently decided to donate their contribution of pizza and hot chips every week to support our efforts. This is a wonderful gesture and I thank them for helping us to grow our positive school culture.
On Friday night the P & C held a very successful disco. The ladies have reported that the disco was well supported, ran smoothly and the kids were well behaved. Well Done!
