Curriculum
Howard State School implements the Australian Curriculum to plan the learning for all students while taking into account each student’s needs. The Australian Curriculum includes 3 parts:
- 8 learning areas (sometimes referred to as subjects),
- 7 general capabilities (sometimes known as the 21st century skills), and
- 3 cross-curriculum priorities.
The goal for the Australian Curriculum is to develop successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed young people who are ready to take their place in society.
Teaching and Learning
Howard State School uses the K–12 Curriculum, assessment and reporting framework to inform our practice and decision making.
Differentiation is a key teaching practice in every classroom to ensure every student is able to access and participate in the curriculum. Adjustments are provided to respond to the individual needs of students.
Assessment and Reporting
Students are assessed throughout the learning and a variety of assessment tools are used to gather information about each student's individual learning needs. Assessment informs the teacher's knowledge of the students' current learning needs and informs teaching and learning. Students are provided with feedback about their learning.
Parents and carers are informed of their child's social progress and academic results through:
- Two academic report cards per year (end of term 2 and term 4)
- Two parent-teacher interviews (end of term 2 and start of term 4)
